Service learning constitutes an innovative pedagogical approach that integrates curricular content with the active engagement of students in their communities. Through this model, students acquire knowledge and skills by participating in practical activities, while simultaneously contributing to social development and fostering solidarity.
In order to support teachers in the implementation of this educational model, the Pedagogical Institute Zenica, in cooperation with the International Association Interactive Open Schools (MIOS) Tuzla, organized an online training within the project “Strengthening the School System in Three Cantons through Teacher Training and the School Model.” The training was conducted under the title “Application of Service Learning in Teaching – Module I.”
The event took place on 21 January 2026, with the participation of teachers from schools in the Zenica-Doboj, Tuzla, and Herzegovina-Neretva cantons.
The program encompassed expert presentations and practical examples of service learning application in the classroom, with particular emphasis on methodologies that enable teachers to align curricular content with the needs of the local community.
