The second, revised edition of the Code of Ethics for Research with and on Children in Bosnia and Herzegovina formally entered into force with the publication of the Adoption Decision in the Official Gazette B&H No. 9/26 as a fundamental document that ensures that research involving children is conducted in accordance with the highest ethical and legal principles. It was created with extensive consultations with representatives of relevant institutions, the academic community, representatives of civil society organizations, children and young people during the project “Connecting Points 2.0 – Improving Children’s Participation in Decision-Making for the Improvement of Children’s Rights and Democracy in BiH”, funded by the European Union, and implemented by the World Vision BH Foundation and the Association “Our Children” Sarajevo in cooperation with the Ministry of Human Rights and Refugees of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The Code of Ethics for Research with and About Children in Bosnia and Herzegovina regulates the status of children and their families as participants in various research – humanistic, social, educational, medical and all other research within educational institutions, sports clubs, cultural and artistic societies, children’s homes and the like, which can directly or indirectly affect their personal integrity.
The main purpose of the Code of Ethics is to familiarize researchers, children, parents/guardians, as well as the general public with the basic ethical principles and standards that must be applied in research procedures involving children, as well as to create an ethical framework for the dissemination and deepening of general scientific and professional knowledge about children, their physical, emotional, psychological and social aspects, all in order to promote the common good of the child. his family and the community at all.
The revised Code not only defines more precisely the roles and responsibilities of researchers, parents/guardians and institutions, but also introduces innovative approaches to child protection, including an annex with a children’s version of the Code – a document created by children.
