Pedagogical Institute Zenica as an Example of Good Practice

A three-day comprehensive training on subject curricula for the expert team for curricular reform in the Herzegovina-Neretva Canton was held in Mostar with the support of the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina. A special contribution to the training was provided by the Pedagogical Institute Zenica, which responded to the invitation to present, on February 12, 2026, its experiences and challenges in curricular reform in the Zenica-Doboj Canton.

During the first part, dedicated to the topic The Process of Developing Subject Curricula, the Director of the Pedagogical Institute Zenica, Aida Salkić, presented the working model and activities in the Zenica-Doboj Canton within the project Quality Education through Curricular Reform. This project included support from the OSCE Mission to Bosnia and Herzegovina to the relevant Ministry and the Pedagogical Institute Zenica in improving the quality and inclusiveness of education through the development of subject curricula for primary and general secondary education (grammar schools), based on learning outcomes, in accordance with the document Common Core Curriculum Defined by Learning Outcomes, adopted by the Agency for Preschool, Primary and Secondary Education in Bosnia and Herzegovina. She explained the steps taken in developing subject curricula, the challenges encountered in practice, and presented concrete solutions that proved successful.

In the second part, on the topic Examples of Subject Curricula, education advisors Aldiana Nuhanović and Aldijana Salić presented specific subject curricula.

The previous work and achieved results of the Pedagogical Institute Zenica served as an example of good practice, showing how a systematic approach and clear vision can overcome even the most complex challenges in education reform.
