Caritas Switzerland, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Zenica-Doboj Canton and the Roma Support Center “Romalen” in Kakanj, is implementing a project called “Integrated Approach to Social Inclusion”. Project activities include, among other things, primary and secondary schools in the Kakanj Municipality. The focus of the aforementioned project, when it comes to the education segment, is to raise awareness of the need for regular attendance at classes and the importance of education for all children, primarily for children belonging to the Roma population and other vulnerable groups of the population living in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
In order to raise the level of professional competence of teachers and professional associates, when it comes to working with students belonging to the Roma population and other vulnerable groups, the Pedagogical Institute Zenica, as part of the project activities, implemented training for teachers and professional associates from primary and secondary schools in the Kakanj Municipality. The first training of teachers and professional associates as part of the Project “Integrated approach to social inclusion” was held on 05.06.2023. in the premises of the Public Institution “Muhsin Rizvić” Grammar School Kakanj.
The first training covered three topics: Children and youth in a social context, Interculturalism in the school environment, Stereotypes and prejudices.
In order to achieve the general goal of the Project, which is to improve the living conditions of members of the Roma population and other vulnerable groups of the population, the Project implies a sectoral approach and the inclusion of all relevant entities that can, within their scope of work, contribute to the achievement of the stated goal. In order to exchange experiences and provide the best possible response to the challenges that our society and education system face every day when it comes to marginalized groups of society, the training was also attended by representatives of the Social Services Service of the Municipality of Kakanj, the Social Work Center Kakanj, a representative of the Kakanj Police Station, and a representative of the Public Institution Employment Service ZDK – Biro Kakanj. The seminar was organized by expert advisors for education affairs at Pedagogical Institute of Zenica: Selvedin Delić, Advija Huseinspahić and Mirsada Čajlaković.
