Seminar Held: “Individualization in Inclusive Education”

Between January 6 and 13, 2026, three two-day seminars titled “Individualization in Inclusive Education” were successfully organized in Visoko, Zenica and Tešanj. The events brought together a large number of teachers, professional associates, and members of inclusive teams from primary schools.

The seminar was organized by the Pedagogical Institute Zenica in cooperation with the International Association “Interactive Open Schools” (MIOS) Tuzla, within the project “Strengthening the School System in Three Cantons” through teacher training. The program was implemented by Amila Herceg-Hodžić, education advisor specializing in inclusive education.

At the opening of the seminar, participants were welcomed by Aida Salkić, Director of the Pedagogical Institute Zenica, and Edina Malkić, Director of MIOS, who emphasized the importance of continuous professional development in the field of inclusive education.

The seminar was structured through interactive workshops and expert lectures:

  • The importance and methods of pedagogical observation – how to monitor students and record their needs.
  • Working in an inclusive team – the role of cooperation among teachers, professional associates, and parents.
  • Developing an Individualized Education Program (IEP) – practical steps and examples from practice.
  • Describing student achievements – methods of documenting and evaluating student progress.
  • Choosing an individualized approach – adapting methods and content to students with different needs.
  • Lecture: Assistive technology, digital tools, and artificial intelligence as support in individualized teaching – showcasing modern solutions that facilitate teachers’ work and support students.

Participants expressed great satisfaction with the content and organization of the seminar. They particularly highlighted the value of exchanging experiences, acquiring new knowledge about the development and implementation of IEPs, gaining a better understanding of the role of technology and artificial intelligence in inclusive education, and learning about modern methods and practices that will contribute to higher-quality work in inclusive classrooms.

The seminar demonstrated that individualization is not merely a theoretical concept but a practical tool for improving inclusive education. Thanks to the support of the Pedagogical Institute, participants were empowered to apply what they learned in their schools, thereby contributing to the creation of an education system in which every child has the opportunity to develop their potential.

Special thanks were extended to the host schools: MSS “Hazim Šabanović” Visoko, SMS “Mladost” Zenica and PS “Huso Hodžić” Tešanj, whose facilities contributed to the successful realization of the seminar. Their openness and hospitality enabled the seminar to take place in an atmosphere of cooperation and shared learning.

Organizational support for the successful implementation of the seminar “Individualization in Inclusive Education” was provided by education advisors from the Pedagogical Institute Zenica: Aldiana Nuhanović, Aldijana Salić, and Amela Serdarević-Šogolj.
