The Pedagogical Institute of Zenica, in cooperation with the International Association “Interactive Open Schools” Tuzla (MIOS), organized a training session titled “Kamishibai Technique in Educational Work with Children” on October 22 and 23, 2025, at the President Hotel in Maglaj, as part of the project “Strengthening the School System in Three Cantons through Teacher Training and the School Model.”
The training was attended by primary school teachers from the municipalities of Doboj Jug, Tešanj, Maglaj, and the City of Zavidovići. Kamishibai is a storytelling technique increasingly used in education, especially in primary schools, as a creative and interactive teaching method. It serves as a tool for developing language skills, fostering creativity, collaborative learning, and multisensory engagement.
During the theoretical part, teachers were introduced to the origins, historical context, and modern adaptations of the technique. The practical part offered insights into various aesthetics and themes that can be conveyed through Kamishibai, as well as the fusion of image and story to support diverse teaching content.
On the second day, teachers participated in workshops where they experienced how voice, movement, and character can become bridges to understanding, empathy, and self-confidence. They explored how every story told carries traces of creativity, courage, and the desire to support young people in expressing what often remains unspoken.
The application of Kamishibai is recommended across various subjects to enhance teaching quality and achieve educational outcomes. Teachers expressed satisfaction with the training, highlighting the value of the practical segment, which enabled them to create and present their own Kamishibai stories. This activity encouraged idea exchange, collaboration, and reflection on the possibilities of integrating the technique into everyday teaching.
