The European Day of Languages was this year celebrated in Bosnia and Herzegovina with a special event in Zenica, under the motto “Languages open hearts and minds!”.
The event was organized by the European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) in BiH, chaired by the Goethe-Institut, in cooperation with Europe House Sarajevo, the Faculty of Philosophy of the University of Zenica, and the Pedagogical Institute Zenica, under the patronage of the Delegation of the European Union to BiH.
More than 500 primary and secondary school students, together with their teachers and principals, gathered in the pleasant setting of the Bosnian National Theatre Zenica on 25 September 2025. They took part in and enjoyed a creative and engaging programme that included speak dating sessions, crash courses, workshops, a prize raffle, as well as presentations of European languages and cultures through interactive stands of embassies and cultural institutions.
In this lively and direct way, the beauty of learning languages was showcased, along with the importance of preserving linguistic and cultural diversity. Knowledge of languages is not only an educational and professional advantage, but also a key to tolerance, mutual understanding, cooperation, and friendships that transcend borders.
