The German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) are implementing the “Vocational Education in BiH” project in the area of Zenica-Doboj Canton, based on the Memorandum of Cooperation between the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports and GIZ. GIZ’s partner school in this project from the Zenica-Doboj canton is the mixed secondary school Tešanj. Within the project “Vocational education in Bosnia and Herzegovina”, part “Development of the capacity of the Zenica Pedagogical Institute with two selected measures for further improvement of work with the support of GiZ” is a Step 1 Development of new modular curricula. The Pedagogical Institute, implementing the activities from Step 1, developed a new methodology for the development of curricula in secondary vocational education and training, and in cooperation with the representatives of the mixed secondary school Tešanj, it was agreed that the first two pilot occupations that will be carried out according to the new methodology will be Technician for woodworking and carpentry.
Working groups were formed for the preparation of the curricula for the two occupations mentioned, and they are composed of teachers from the mixed secondary school Tešanj, expert advisers for the field of education from the Pedagogical Institute Zenica, and representatives of the local economy from the wood-processing profession. For the purposes of implementing the aforementioned activities, an expert team was formed, a coordination plan and schedule of activities were established. On April 4, 2023, an online meeting was held with the school’s management, the main project coordinators, and the head of the Expert Team, and instructions were given for further activities on the preparation of the curricula for the two professions in accordance with the established schedule of activities, which includes a coordination plan at the school level, familiarization with the new methodology for the development of curricula in secondary vocational education and training, access to material bases for the preparation of curricula, etc.
The meeting was attended by Jasminka Mujkanović, the school principal, and Mujo Zeničanin and Adnan Alić, assistant principals, in front of the mixed secondary school Tešanj. In front of the Zenica Pedagogical Institute, the meeting was attended by Aida Salkić, director of the Zenica Pedagogical Institute – Head of the Professional Team, and Fehim Terzić, expert advisor for the field of education at the Zenica Pedagogical Institute – the main coordinator for the development of teaching programs for general education subjects.
