A ceremony was held at the Historical Museum of Bosnia and Herzegovina in Sarajevo on 13 May 2026 to mark 30 years of British Council in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The event was attended by numerous representatives of educational institutions, international organizations, cultural and public life, marking three decades of partnership, cooperation and joint successes in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The guests were addressed by the British Ambassador to Bosnia and Herzegovina H.E. Julian Reilly, as well as Clare Sears, Director of the British Council for the Western Balkans, and Amila Karavdić, Director of Cultural Cooperation of the British Council in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Among those present were also representatives of the Pedagogical Institute Zenica, which in recent years has achieved significant cooperation with the British Council through projects aimed at improving the quality of education, professional development of teachers, and development of student competencies.
The project “Schools for the 21st Century”, which is being implemented in the Zenica-Doboj Canton, is of particular note. As part of this program, elementary school students and teachers were given the opportunity to develop critical thinking, problem-solving and programming skills through an innovative teaching approach and the use of micro:bit technology. English teachers from elementary and secondary schools in the Zenica-Doboj Canton also had the opportunity to register on the Future English Online Teacher Community platform, designed by the British Council, through specially created accounts. The project enabled teachers to exchange experiences, access international educational practices and additional professional empowerment, which led to the adoption of non-standard English language teaching and modernized learning approaches.
Celebrating 30 years of the British Council’s work in Bosnia and Herzegovina was an opportunity to summarize the results achieved, but also to confirm the commitment to continued cooperation. The participation of the Zenica Pedagogical Institute in this event confirms the importance of joint action in strengthening the education system and creating opportunities for new generations of students and teachers.
