Caritas Switzerland, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, Pedagogical Institute Zenica and the Roma Support Center Romalen Kakanj, continues with the implementation of the project Integral Approach to Social Inclusion. Project activities include, among other things, primary and secondary schools from the Kakanj Municipality and the focus of the project, when it comes to the education segment, is raising the level of awareness of the need for regular attendance and the importance of education for all children, primarily for children belonging to the Roma population and other vulnerable population groups living in Bosnia and Herzegovina. In order to raise the level of professional competence of teachers as part of the project activities, the second education of teachers and professional associates from primary and secondary schools was held in the Kakanj Municipality.
In June of this year, the first education of nominated teachers and professional associates was realized, and on November 21, 2023. in the premises of the Club of Friends of the “Muharem Berbić” Foundation in Kakanj, the second education for teachers and professional associates was held, which included three topics:
- An intersectoral approach to the social inclusion of young people in the context of current regulations
- Identification of the causes of young people’s risky behavior (family environment, child characteristics, influence of peers, influence of the media, etc.)
- Prevention programs within the framework of an integral approach to the social inclusion of young people
The continuation of the education as part of the Project enabled the exchange of experiences, and the importance of the existence and improvement of intersectoral cooperation was pointed out once again, especially when it comes to marginalized groups of society. In addition to representatives of primary and secondary schools, the training was attended by representatives of the Kakanj Municipality’s Social Activities Service, the Kakanj Center for Social Work, a representative of the Kakanj Police Station, representatives of the Roma Support Center “Romalen” Kakanj, and representatives of Caritas Switzerland. The participants of the seminar emphasized that in the Kakanj Municipality, the cooperation between schools and the aforementioned entities is at an enviable level, which certainly has a positive effect on our schools and the local communities where the schools exist.
The education took place in the spirit of exchanging experiences, ideas and examples of good practice from schools and other institutions whose representatives took part and which are very important and valuable when it comes to overcoming difficulties and obstacles in ensuring quality upbringing and education for every child. The organizers of the seminar were expert advisers in the field of education from Pedagogical Institute Zenica: Selvedin Delić, Advija Huseinspahić and Mirsada Čajlaković.
