Today, 4 December 2025, a working meeting was held at the Pedagogical Institute of Zenica with Ms. Tiphanie Salès, Attaché for Scientific and University Cooperation and the French Language in the Department for Cooperation and Cultural Affairs of the Embassy of France in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The topic of the meeting was how to increase the presence of the French language in educational institutions in the Zenica-Doboj Canton.
The Director of the Pedagogical Institute presented data on trends in the learning of the French language in schools over recent school years, which unfortunately show a significant decline in the number of students studying this foreign language, and she highlighted the key challenge – the shortage of French language teachers.The Attaché presented the plans of the Embassy of France in the field of promoting the French language and emphasized the Embassy’s readiness to further support educational institutions in strengthening and improving French language instruction. The discussion also addressed the possibilities of introducing specialized French language programmes in pilot preschool institutions, organizing French language presentations in primary schools for students who are about to choose their second foreign language, as well as professional development for French language teachers.
It was concluded that cooperation between the Pedagogical Institute of Zenica and the Embassy of France will continue and be further strengthened through joint activities aimed at improving the status of the French language within the education system of the Zenica-Doboj Canton.
