Organized by the CIVITAS Educational Center for Democracy and Human Rights, the annual conference on strategic planning and CIVITAS school programs for civic education was held in Neum from 15 to 17 September 2023 on the topic “Development, training, evaluation and self-evaluation of the competences of civic education subject teachers in primary and secondary schools”.
The conference program consisted of expert lectures, panel discussions and laboratories for practitioners.
Thematically, the expert lectures discussed standards, programs and examples of good practice in professional development and professional development of teaching staff, as well as the correlation of teacher competences with the quality of teaching and learning outcomes achieved by students. Panel discussions with educational authorities, professors from public universities, experts from the European Union and the Western Balkans region were dedicated to lifelong learning competences and the improvement of educational work focused on learning outcomes, as well as pedagogical and specific methodological competences of civic education teachers. Finally, the third element of the program consisted of laboratories for practitioners in which an effort was made to define and propose a comprehensive program – a protocol for professional development of teachers who teach the content of civic education subjects. The conference program was attended by more than 130 teachers, experts, and representatives of educational authorities from Bosnia and Herzegovina, including representatives of the Zenica Pedagogical Institute Mirza Čehajić and Aldijana Salić, expert advisors in the field of education led by the director of the Zenica Pedagogical Institute Aida Salkić.
