Within the project “An Integrated Approach to Social Inclusion”, Caritas Switzerland in Bosnia and Herzegovina, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Zenica-Doboj Canton, the Pedagogical Institute Zenica, and the Center for Roma Support “Romalen” Kakanj, organized the fourth training for teachers and professional associates of primary and secondary schools in the municipality of Kakanj.
The training took place on February 12, 2025, at the premises of the Public Institution Cultural and Sports Center Kakanj, and covered the following topics:
- Interculturalism in school and school environment.
- Historical development of the Roma national minority and their integration into the educational system (successes and challenges).
The goal of the project, concerning the education segment, is to raise awareness about the need for regular class attendance, focusing on students from the Roma population and other vulnerable groups. Given that achieving this goal requires a multisectoral approach, representatives from the Kakanj Social Work Center, Kakanj Police Station, and a representative from the Kakanj Islamic Community were also present at the training.
During the training, participants had the opportunity to present examples of successfully implemented intercultural programs in their schools, sharing their own experiences in working with students from sensitive groups. The importance of additional learning support for students from sensitive groups was emphasized, including individualized learning plans and extra classes, as well as efforts to promote social integration of students through various activities and projects.
The training was conducted by education advisors from the Pedagogical Institute Zenica, Advija Huseinspahić and Mirza Čehajić.
